Famara beach

Famara it is a mountainous massif and the beach at your feet in the island of Lanzarote.

It is situated to the north of the island, including in the municipalities of Teguise and Haría with a length of 23 km and is of volcanic origin. The highest point of the massif and the entire island is the Peñas del Chache, with 671 m of altitude. For the western slope form a cliff on the beach of Famara and the Atlantic Ocean. Further north is the Mirador del Rio, a work of the artist César Manriquewhere you can contemplate the Island of Graciosa and the Chinijo Archipelago. The Cliffs of Famara house a Special Protection Area for Birds.

As Famara it is also known to the beach located at the foot of the massif and that constitutes the northern limit of The Jable, sandy areas that juts up the center of Lanzarote. The predominance of trade winds on the coast makes the temperatures are more moderate than in other areas of the island, and has fostered the practice of water sports such as surf.

At the southern end of the beach sits the town of Caleta de Famarawith a population of 1073 inhabitants.
