Jameos del Agua

The Jameos del Agua they are a natural space and a center of art, culture and tourism, is located in the municipality of Haríain the north of the island of Lanzarotemanaged by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and designed by the artist and architect César Manrique.

The word "jameo" is of origin aboriginal and it refers to a hole that occurs as a result of the collapse of the roof of a tubo volcánico.Los Jameos del Agua, as the Cueva de los Verdesare located inside the volcanic tunnel created by the eruption of the Volcano of the Crown. The tunnel has a known length of 6 km, of which at least 1.5 km run under the ocean surface, taking this last stretch of the name of Túnel de la Atlántida.

The Jameos del Agua are located in the section of this tunnel closest to the coast. It is formed by at least three jameos or openings in the ground. The Jameo Chico on where the access to the interior, the Jameo Grande and a third party, referred to Jameo of the Casserole.
